Orion A. Strand was born and raised in central Oklahoma. After graduation from high school in Edmond, he moved to Norman to complete his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and English Literature at the University of Oklahoma where he served as Vice President of the Philosophical Society. During this time, he also apprenticed under a certified master chef at a fine dining restaurant, becoming the de facto head chef in charge of the kitchen before enrolling at the University of Oklahoma College of Law. In law school, Orion served as the Special Features Editor for the Native American Law Review and Treasurer for the Student Bar Association. He also served as a judicial intern for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission where he assisted ALJs on oil and gas spacing and pooling cases as well as interning for the District Attorney's office for Denver, Colorado where he worked under prosecutors in the juvenile division. Orion also worked for the law library as a research assistant where he drafted research memos for professors on international design patent law and other topics. Orion graduated from OU College of Law with a Juris Doctorate in 2017 before being admitted as a practicing attorney to the Oklahoma Bar the same year.

As an attorney, Orion worked in private practice, representing clients in general civil litigation and criminal defense at the municipal, state, and federal levels. In September 2020, he gave oral argument before a panel of judges at the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Orion has also represented corporate and individual clients on transactional matters ranging from asset acquisition to contract drafting to business incorporation and intellectual property affairs.
